Renew a Trademark in Iran

According to the law of patents, industrial designs and trademarks in Iran the trademark is protected for a period of 10 years, which can be renewed for ten year periods. If the owner does not renew the trademark within a year before expiry, the trademark is invalidated and anyone can register it in his name. However, iran law provides a six-month grace period for the owner, which allows him to renew the trademark by six months after the expiration of the mark with the late payment charge.

The trademark renewal request must be made through the website of the Industrial Property Office, and the necessary documents must be accompanied by a copy of the trademark registration certificate, sample of trademark, name and address of the proprietor and attorney or his authorized representative, and after payment of the fee, the office renews the trademark certificate.

The owner can apply for the reduction of classes or goods and services at the time of extension without paying extra fee, which should be published at the owner's expense in the official gazette.
